MMO Buzz

Hello my geeky friends!

There’s a lot of awesome things going on in the gaming community at the moment, more so for those of us into mmorpgs. I’ll touch on a few things here for my mmo pals.

WoW Classic

All aboard the nostalgia train! Recently Blizzard released their classic servers. The first day ques were insanely large upwards of 5 digits or more for some people. It has taken over two weeks for them to get rid of sharding, further speaking to the popularity of the old school version of the game. Popular streamers are pulling in more people to classic, creating over population in some servers and thus people are being allowed to transfer out of those servers for free.

I, myself, am maining a paladin. I have to remember to reapply buffs, that hunters have mana and thus need BOW rather than BOM, watch my stances with other paladin in the party, and that class quests are a thing.  Playing paladin for healing has its own challenges like mana conservation and wearing cloth if plate doesn’t give me the INT I need. It is really nice to see the spec be viable again.

Something else to point out about classic is how it pretty much forces you to interact with others and be more of a community. Some quests can not be completed without working with people and dungeons can not be done solo until you have out leveled them. There is no dungeon finder or other program to get you into a group automatically.

I think it’s great Blizzard managed to pull this off for us. Sure there are ‘private servers’ but none of them are truly ‘blizz-like’ even if they claim to be. The only way to get the true Classic WoW experience is to actually play Blizzard’s version.

Recruit a friend is down at the moment but when it comes back up I will add a link to my recruitment thing.

Chronicles of Elyria

As time ticks down the clock for this game to release into Alpha and Beta, more features and information is released about how the game is going to work. The more I see, the more excited I get for the final release. I will be in the beta, I think second beta, because I will be joining a friend’s family. I will be playing a lore focused bard who will be singing the praises of our warriors and making sure our history isn’t forgotten. Sounds great, right? Our family leader intends to be a lich, raising the dead and stuff. I’ve already built a lot of my character in my head. I know how she is going to act and react to many common situations.

Some of the most popular features of this game include life and death of characters spanning naturally over a 1 year irl. You can buy souls as a way to continue the game. Government, the economy, and society in general is created and run by the players. There's really just so many unique innovations in this game that talking about them all would make this too long of a read. I recommend going and reading their website, which is linked in the title of this section.
