First Impressions of Revelation Online

Looking For A Place to Belong

Ever since I can remember, I've been looking for a group, a place, to fit in. This has not changed and may never change. Instead it has evolved into an issue of finding a thing I can do. This journey is as timeless as the wheel or the formula EA uses to make sports games. Everyone goes through it but some of us remain lost and wandering aimlessly about the internet googling whatever pops into our heads.

When I was younger, it was all about making money. It went from wanting to help cute animals get better to wanting to help people find justice to wanting to teach cute children. Now, I'm not sure where I'm going. Perhaps getting a degree is pointless and perhaps my future lies elsewhere. Now, I seek some kind of personal fulfillment to feel like I fit in, like I belong.

I've tried options for things that might make money and provide amusement. This blog, for example. The two or three of you who read this badly written and poorly planned mess might enjoy it as much as I do. However, that's not the level of success I'm looking for. Still <3 you guys. The only thing I found any success with is my youtube gaming channel. It's not amazing, but it's a start. A very slow start. Maybe if I worked harder, edited, and actually put in effort it would do better.

It's not that I'm jobless or anything. I have a day job, but it's not what I want to do. The company is great and offer tons of benefits. The only problem is what it is doing to my health. They say 'no job is worth your health' but other people say 'this one is'. This is not what I'm meant to do and it's obvious. I've asked people close to me what I'm good at and the answer I keep getting is 'youtube, put more into it'. I honestly think they might be right. I don't like the drama that comes with youtube and podcasting and it is because of that drama I stopped being part of social circles. Well, that and how harshly competitive some gaming youtubers are.

I guess the point I'm trying to get at is that you're not alone if you're looking for your place in this world. I'm in my 30's and still looking while friends younger than me are homeowners with flashy new cars and adorable kids. At least I got a great husband and a rocky path I can walk.

Oh, by the way, I'll try to post more. Got a new wine to try, so look for that review <3 Also, a cat video (got a kitten and she's full of bite and fight) and gaming thing.

Sick Day Thoughts

When I'm sick my brain tends to work a little differently. It's like using a drinking glass for a plant pot or a plant pot for a fish bowl. Useful but not what it was intended for. This has resulted in incomplete fanfiction, figures made of candle wax, and backyard mudbaths (hey, I was eight, don't judge me). Today it has resulted in nostalgia.

The biggest nostalgia trip for me comes from the fact that I crave what I call 'trash food' when I'm recovering from illness. Trash food is, simply, junk food. Today's junk food of choice is potted meat and mayonnaise sandwiches that a certain Gintama shinsengumi officer would be very proud of. The taste reminds me of my childhood. When I was really young and spending every summer at my grandparents house, my grandpa and I would spend time together fishing and having picnics. He introduced me to potted meat sandwiches. I just wish I had fresh tomato and cucumber to go with it, like we used to have back then. Later we would go bust open a watermelon. It was a good time.

While I was enjoying my sandwich, my husband, who is also sick, is watching grumpcade playing old games. This reminds me of when I logged a ton of hours on my sega genesis playing some very rage worthy games. The likes of Lion King, Aladdin, Spot, and Bubsy Bobcat kept me amused, and annoyed, for most of my childhood. It makes me want to go back and play those games and post my reactions on youtube. My old yells of 'what the heck dude' and 'die jerk' have been replaced by my colorful adult language but I'm sure the results will be the same. Surely you guys would get a kick out of how bad I suck at platformers.

In other news, the last episode of Naruto aired recently. No spoilers, please. I'm re-watching from the start before ending the series. I just got to the part where Sauske arrives at Orochimaru's hideout. Wow, do things change later. Sakura is great and all, but she is the classic example of the 'only useful when no other option exists' trope. I'm so glad she trains with Tsunade to become an awesome healer with a punch like a tailed beast. Hopefully the next generation of ninja will be as interesting since Naruto's son, Boruto, is getting a series. I can't get over how dumb his name is, but maybe that's a sign it will be good.

Anyway, my head hurts and I'm due a dose of dayquil.I leave you with one question: What weird shower thoughts do you have when you're sick?

Computers, Gaming, and VR Thoughts

There’s something that has been on my mind lately regarding gaming, the part computers play in the industry, and where the future of video games is going. It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come over the years, from the first console system to the seeds of virtual reality becoming main stream. What does that mean for gamers? What about the industry? The only thing I can honestly see are positive outcomes leading to further other industries such as the medical field and military. Both of them already use simulations crafted from gaming technology at great success rates.

It’s no secret that most games these days are playable on a PC and some are even mac compatible. There’s even a meme about the ‘pc master race’ that’s so mainstream almost every gamer has seen it a least once. Computers are a great medium for gaming simply because they are easy to upgrade, are constantly evolving into something better, and are easy to adapt the most simple to the most complex games to depending on system requirements. Consoles, in response, have upped their game, so to speak. Gaming consoles have become even more like computers to make way to better graphics and more complex systems. Big RPGs no longer take multiple discs. This has caused the gaming industry to go from some niche kids and nerds thing to a past time anyone can enjoy.

You’re probably wondering where I’m going with all this. Well, virtual reality, naturally. I can’t seem to look at gaming articles without seeing one or two dedicated to virtual reality. There’s tons of hype as well as challenges standing between us and the future of gaming. The graphics and response have improved greatly since the first virtual reality machines hit select arcades a few years ago. There’s not many arcades left except for those with old game machines and the ones in theme parks with the newer units, like the virtual reality ones. Recently, we have seen an increase in consumer grade virtual reality devices. They have recently started selling for the same price, if not a bit more, than high end consoles or low end gaming computers. Mostly, the graphics are still needing work. I have seen some development announced for better graphics in games. I’ve also seen some rumors, still unconfirmed last I checked, about adding rpgs to the mix. We all know what we’re waiting on. A MMORPG with awesome graphics and tons of cool features. Let’ hope it doesn’t turn into a Sword Art Online.

We’re still a long way away from the perfect virtual reality experience but we have getting closer. Now I need to get my hands on one of the VR devices and see just how far they have come first hand. There’s only so much of the experience you can get from watching youtube videos.

What a Wine-er

Adults sometimes like to sit back and relax with an adult beverage of sorts. One of my personal favorites is wine, specifically white zinfandel. I found a cheap bottle at my local Walmart (still getting used to not being in a dry county) and decided to give it a go.

Brand: Oakleaf Vineyards
Type: White Zinfandel
Price: $3 for a bottle that makes about 4-5 glasses.

It's what you would expect of a white zinfandel. Nice pink color, sweet, smells a bit fruity. It is obviously alcoholic but not overpoweringly so. The back of the bottle even recommends a cheese pairing of baked Bree. Definitely a good value for the price and I'm looking forward to trying other wines offered by Oakleaf Vineyards. If you're over the age of 21 with a valid ID to show at time of purchase, I recommend this.

If anyone wants to recommend a wine, or other adult beverage, for me to try, please leave me a comment. Thanks for reading <3

So Legion is Out- Some spoilers after a quick look

World of Warcraft's latest expansion, Legion, is out. You know, in case you didn't hear. I'm not totally sure what to make of it so far. King Varion is dead, King Anduin seems, I don't know, different from Prince Anduin from Warlords. Maybe it's grief? He doesn't seem as much the heroic type as he used to and instead Varion went from jerk to hero in his final moments. Meh, I'm a picky fangirl.

As far as gameplay, they're still doing their balancing act with some of the classes. The paladin health pool issues I've been reading have me a little scared to get my tank into raids. Hopefully they will find a way to address it and avoid class stigma that has happened with various other classes in other expansions. Class stigma is mostly a community issue (huntards, retraderps, ect) and I don't really see that itself going away any time soon. Also, I'm a bit upset at how worthless inscription feels at earlier levels. I switched to alchemy, which feels a bit more lucrative and useful.

Omg, I do have to mention, the quest areas look pretty. Warlords, now this? Good job Blizzard! Also, plenty of 'unique' enemies that give good drops dispersed around every map.

Over all, I like legion. I feel like it is doing a good job making people more social, bringing down market inflation, and getting people more interested in the game by diversifying play styles and giving people plenty to do.

I'll keep everyone posted with little updates on how everything goes.
